The Extensive Use of Splines at Boeing
نویسنده
چکیده
Splines are used extensively at Boeing and throughout much of the industrial world. There are very few remaining areas in either manufacturing or engineering in which these interesting functions have yet to play a role, and their use continues to grow at a rapid rate. A spline, for the purposes of this article, is defined as any function made up of one or more polynomial pieces joined together to satisfy given (and possibly different) differentiability requirements. At Boeing, these functions are used not only to represent geometric designs, by modeling curves and surfaces that describe the edges and faces of geometric solids, but also to model engineering analysis and performance data. As an example of the latter, splines can be used to model airplane drag as a function of mach number, the speed of the airplane with respect to the free stream airflow.

Investigation of electron and hydrogenic-donor states confined in a permeable spherical box using B-splines
Effects of quantum size and potential shape on the spectra of an electron and a hydrogenic-donor at the center of a permeable spherical cavity have been calculated, using linear variational method. B-splines have been used as basis functions. By extensive convergence tests and comparing with other results given in the literature, the validity and efficiency of the method were confirmed.
متن کاملProducing Gravity Acceleration at Sea Surface in Persian Gulf Using Ellipsoidal Splines
In this paper, a method is proposed for producing gravity acceleration at sea surface in the Persian Gulf. This method is based on the Geoid height from satellite altimetry, high resolution Geopotential models, and ellipsoidal splines. First, the definition of the ellipsoidal spline functions is presented in a Hilbert space, which is consisted of infinitely often differentiable functions. In or...
متن کاملComparison of the Effectiveness of Boeing Family Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Based Therapy (ACT) on Marital Satisfaction of Mothers with Single Children
Background & Aims: One of the areas that has undergone change in Iran is childbearing. Statistical data show a decrease in the fertility rate in the last few decades; To the extent that in recent years the number of children of a mother is less than the required index in replacing generations (1/2 children) (1). This downward change in fertility rate indicates a change in the fertility of Irani...
متن کاملESTIMATING DRYING SHRINKAGE OF CONCRETE USING A MULTIVARIATE ADAPTIVE REGRESSION SPLINES APPROACH
In the present study, the multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) technique is employed to estimate the drying shrinkage of concrete. To this purpose, a very big database (RILEM Data Bank) from different experimental studies is used. Several effective parameters such as the age of onset of shrinkage measurement, age at start of drying, the ratio of the volume of the sample on its drying...
متن کاملGravity acceleration at the sea surface derived from satellite altimetry data using harmonic splines
Gravity acceleration data have grand pursuit for marine applications. Due to environmental effects, marine gravity observations always hold a high noise level. In this paper, we propose an approach to produce marine gravity data using satellite altimetry, high-resolution geopotential models and harmonic splines. On the one hand, harmonic spline functions have great capability for local gravity ...
